Some new tax trainees are known for being great pretty much from day 1, but others are not.
In some firms, they overrecruit trainees, knowing that some won’t be good enough to stay.
But what is it that makes a great tax trainee (or tax junior)/tax graduate? Is it raw talent? Mindset? Skill?
In this episode, we’re joined by Olivia Pryer, a trainee loved by her boss at ETC Tax. She joins us so we can delve into how she was a good junior, so you can be one too or you can help your colleges become one.
An excellent junior is a huge asset to any team.

Their resources are where I usually start all my tax research. I’ve used it for over 7 years, and I think it’s great.
There’s detailed guidance, high-level guidance, overview guidance, case law, legislation, and more.
My personal favourite is the “in-depth” guidance.
