TTPP 17: How the ADIT Qualification Could Benefit Your Tax Career with Catriona Loughran of Extratax Training

Have you heard of the Advanced Diploma in International Taxation (ADIT?)?

It’s a qualification offered by the Chartered Institute of Taxation (CIOT), which also offers the Chartered Tax Advisor (CTA) qualification.

Unlike the CTA, the ADIT solely focuses on international tax, rather than just the tax of, say, the UK or other jurisdiction. With the world becoming ever more global, as tax professionals, we are more likely to be exposed to or required to deal with international tax issues, so having some knowledge of international issues is becoming ever-more important.

What exactly is meant by ‘international’ tax? Is it just in relation to corporation tax, or does it cover other taxes such as the tax of individuals or VAT? And how much international tax is required in your role for the ADIT to be worthwhile for you?

Before speaking to this episode’s guest, Catriona Loughran, I had so many misconceptions about these, and many other points in relation to ADIT. But in the episode, Catriona debunks these, and other ‘myths’ about the qualification.

Catriona is Head of Tax of Alexander Mann Solutions, with responsibility for tax compliance, planning and risk management across more than 25 countries. She is CTA and ADIT qualified, and also the founder of Extratax Training, which is a recognised course provider for the ADIT. She is well placed to provide advice and information about the ADIT, and in the episode, she does exactly that, covering whether it would be beneficial for you, the study options, and how it compares to the CTA in terms of difficulty and practicality!

If you think you’re interested in doing the ADIT or would just like to find out more information, I can highly recommend a listen to Catriona’s wisdom.
