TTPP94: What Does Being MD of an Independent Tax Consultancy Look Like? with Angela Wood

In this episode of the Tax role Insights series, you’ll get to hear from Angela Wood, who’s the Managing Director of a small independent tax consultancy called ETC Tax.

Her route into this role isn’t exactly conventional. She spent some years working as a solicitor in corporation tax immediately prior, and the skillsets to do each aren’t in perfect alignment, it’s fair to say.

However, as you will hear, that hasn’t stopped Angela, and she is leading the charge for the successful ETC Tax.

Angela shares with us what it’s like to work for such a business and gives us an insight into her current role – including what she’s responsible for, the usual tasks she gets involved in, her normal working hours, and any areas of her role that she finds stressful.

And as always with Tax Role Insights episodes, I hope you get a good insight into this role to help you decide what you’d like to do with your tax career.

Tax Advice Masterclass

TTPP93: Ex-CIOT Examiner Shares Insight into the Role and How to Become One with Sam Hart

Become an exceptional tax advisor

A key skill for any tax advisor is to be able to provide high-quality tax advice – the type of advice that clients are happy to pay for and that helps them as much as possible.

And doing the CTA qualification helps with learning how to do this.

You’ll be decent after doing CTA, but you’ll still have a lot to learn.

The better you are at providing advice, the more likely you are to get repeat business from clients, the more likely you are to get referrals, and the easier you’ll make your manager’s life when it comes to reviewing your work. The list goes on.

And this is where the Tax Advice Masterclass comes in. It’s designed to teach you how to provide the best tax advice possible.
